Characteristics of Waltz Stone Engineered Quartz.

Please read these notes, they tell you about the care of quartz and also some of the technical characteristics.

Because engineered quartz is made from natural stone, there may be some small marks or blemishes on the surface, this is normal and does not affect the quality of the material. This is more noticeable on solid colours. Quartz is not indestructible, and the following information should be observed to give long life.

  1. Do not place hot items direct from the oven or the hob onto the quartz surface. Heat expansion and cold contraction is a characteristic of most materials. Local overheating may cause thermal shock and may damage the surface. Therefore, local over-heating should be avoided during use. Always use a trivet, wooden chopping board or heat resistant pad.
  2. You should avoid hitting the surface directly with heavy or sharp objects. Impact by heavy object or hitting with sharp tools will damage the surface.
  3. After installation, users should not disassemble or reinstall, it may cause breakage or cracks.

All spillages should be removed as soon as possible using a mild detergent or anti-bacterial spray. If stains are stubborn and will not wipe off use a paste made from biological washing powder directly onto the stain, leave for a while and then wipe with a nearly dry cloth or sponge. Dry stains may be removed using a plastic pencil eraser.

Some foods have strong acid and colouring properties, if left on the worktop, could leave stubborn marks. To remove adhered material such as gum, nail polish or paint, first scrape and clean excess material with a plastic putty knife and then use warm water on a damp clean cloth to remove any marks or residual dirt. For extra-stubborn stains, a non-scratch pad or similar is recommended along with a non-abrasive cleaner. We do not recommend using strong chemicals or solvents, and if this is spilt on the quartz wash off with clean warm water straight away.

It is important to be aware that like any other surface, Waltz Stone can be permanently damaged if exposed to strong chemicals and solvents. These can damage its physical properties. Never clean your Waltz Stone surface with products that contain Trichloroethane, dichloromethane or Methylene chloride, such as paint removers or strippers. Avoid the use of aggressive cleaning agents such as oven/grill cleaners and dishwasher polishing agents that have high alkaline/pH levels (pH 8.5 or higher). Products containing oils or powders may leave a residue and should be rinsed off thoroughly. Should your surface accidentally be exposed to any of these damaging products, rinse immediately with clean warm water to neutralize the effect.

Although the quartz is extremely hard, (Its Mohz Hardness of over 6) and it is possible to cut directly onto the surface with steel knives, it is still best avoided. Do not use glass hard cutting tools as these will cut into the surface and may be a source for bacteria to form. Do not use wire wool or similar harsh abrasives on the surface as this may affect its lustre.

We hope you enjoy your purchase, with care, it should last more than a lifetime!
